     Kevin Edwards, a native of Brooklyn, New York, joined the United States Navy on 01 July 1980. His first assignment was onboard the USS KISKA (AE-35), a fast attack ammunition ship, home ported out of the Bay Area (Concord California). While serving on the USS KISKA, he worked in the deck department as a Deck Yeoman, performing a myriad of clerical duties and operational maintenance. After a short stay in the Deck Department, he was moved up to the Personnel Department.


     Duties included: Initiating security clearances, verification of clearances, maintenance of service records, pay, special pay and incentives, awards, evaluations, educational benefits, and entitlements etc. While in this capacity, he travel extensively thorough out the world, visiting ports such as, Hawaii, Guam, the Philippines, Australia, Honk Hong, Singapore, Diego Garcia, Port Louis Mauritius, and Canada. While assigned, received the following citations: Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Battle “E” Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Medal, Navy Expeditionary Medal and Meritorious Unit Commendation.


     His follow on assignment was to the Nations Capital, Washington, D.C. He worked as an administrative assistant for the Hospital Corpsman Detailing Division, performing mostly clerical duties and responsibilities. He was detailed to the front office to assist while they were undermanned. Having done an outstanding job, he was permanently detailed to that office, in which he ultimately became the office supervisor, a position normally held by much senior personnel. He received many awards such as Sailor of the Quarter and Supervisor of the Quarter and was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, and Joint Service Achievement Medal. Two years later, was transferred to the Navy Recruiting Headquarters, as Personnel Liaison between Recruiting Command Headquarters and the Personnel Support Detachment.


   He assumed the duties of the Personnel Officer while assigned to Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW-123), which deployed onboard the USS AMERICA (CV-66). Daily functions were responsibility of the daily operation of the Personnel Office and the supervision 4 junior personnel. Stronger leader and performer, he was quickly recognized, and within his 1st year aboard, was ranked in the top 5% of his peers group of 18. He continued to lead and be a strong supervisor though out his tour. While deployed onboard the USS AMERICA, during the Persian Gulf War, the ship ran 24-hour flight operations dropping bombs and missiles on Kuwait. During that deployment, visit ports such as Benidom Spain, Palma Spain, Izmir Turkey, and Egypt. Niece France, Paris France, and Monaco.


     Assigned once again to Navy Recruiting Command Headquarters, Kevin managed several different programs, 1), TEMAC Coordinator, was responsible for over 340 TEMAC personnel ensuring personnel recalled met medical and mission requirements. 2). Assistant Career Recruiter Force Manager, responsible for assisting in the management and assignment of Career Navy Recruiters, 3). Recruiter Enlisted Advancement Program (REAP) Coordinator, managed the promotions of outstanding recruiters by zone for meritorious promotions. Supervised the Waiver section, for personnel requiring medical/physical, dependent, and age waivers. Also, supervised the Nuclear Powered section on applicants enlisting into the Navy’s NUC Program. Additional awards included: Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Coast Guard Special Operations Service Ribbon, and Qualified in Enlisted Aviation Warfare.


     He currently resides in Woodbridge, Virginia.
