     Alexa Markus is currently a policy contributor with the Barbara L. Works Foundation, Inc. by providing her in-depth knowledge of the public school system in New York City. There been many questions and concerns arising from the "special education" sector and how it defines it's active assessment of minority children in such programs.

 

     Alexa was a product of the public school system of which attempted to assess her for special education but her parents declined to isolate her learning in a specialized classroom setting. She eventually went on to graduate in the top 5% of her class in 1994 from John F. Kennedy High School in the Bronx.

 

     Her knowledge and expertise has grown exponentially on issues concerning falsely diagnosing young males of color in special education programs around the country. Miss. Markus has also been a tireless advocate of veterans around the country who continue to fight for proper evaluations for disability claims and other services rightly due them. She has been a constant in the struggle to change the panoramic view of how we look at veterans and their families as a whole and to what extent the dynamic can be changed to better service this population collectively. 

 

     She has traveled to various countries such as Africa, India, and Haiti to understand the eclectic parities that exist in the United States of which she acquired insightful information from the misconceptions of others. With her wealth of perspective, Miss. Markus has sat on various panels where the topics of discussion involved human rights as it relates to the economic disparities in countries that are predominately black and brown skinned populations.


     Her staunch support for these issues has allowed her to voice opposition to the United Nations and calling out various leaders that have dragged their feet in coming up with a positive solution. She's always said that "either your part of the problem or part of the solution" which do you seek to be know by. She continues to advocate for those that have been impacted the most from the negligence of various countries in which the landscape of politics only favors the wealthy. 

 

     Miss. Markus has acquire her collegiate education at Hampton University, her BA in economics and MBA in Business Administration & Finance as well as obtaining a graduate certificate in Special Education from Liberty University. 

 

     Miss. Markus currently resides in Manhattan with her husband and son.
